Athens we woke up late. Took our land excursion at 13:00. We went to the acropolis. Saw the paethenon, the theatre of Dionisus, Mars Hill, and some other small temple. We drove by the temple of Zeus and the original olympic stadium. All the ancient Greek architecture was made of marble. The sites were worn smooth. I want marble in my house.

See pictures in my facebook album for more details. Too lazy to double post.

After the tour we went hunting in the city for gyros. It seemed like we were in the financial district. There weren’t many food places open. We ended up going to this one place and I got some Greek sandwich with spicy salami, cucumber, dried tomatoes, and cheese. Itwas pretty good. Dad got a spicy sausage that was good too. But alas I couldn’t find any gyros. The quest will continue tomorrow.

Later that evening we ate some lamb shank and rossoto. Yummy.

Walked around and down some side “streets” the paths are all for people. There arena any cars. You would take a boat to move stuff around or didn’t want to walk.

Basilica of San Marco

13:30 we had pizza at a small shop. It was alright. Its all about the cheese they used. Made it taste different. We also had some gelato. It seemed smoother and lighter than American gelato.

14:00. Done with lunch and walking around more. Apparently we walked out of San marco to cannaregio then down to Santa Croce where mom and sis are looking at a Leonardo da Vinci museum.

The canals around Venice. The tourists take Gondolas around.

The residents take motor boats around. In front of the houses people have motor boats instead of cars.

I love all the colors of the buildings. Alot of them had really colorful flowers on the window sills

17:30 were back at the hotel cuz my leg hurts. Hope its nothing serious. Might be from all the walking yesterday and today. We have a really nice view from our window. It is canal facing. Must be an expensive room. Good thing they were free.

View of San Marco island from our hotel window.

19:00 we went to a small restaurant for dinner. I had the spaghetti alla carbonnara which is spaghetti in an egg sauce with bacon. We also had muscles and clams. It was yummy bit small portions. For dessert we had tiramisu and pirofle (creampuff covered in chocolate ) both were quite good.

Tiramisu
Today we walked 12.25 miles.

On our way to Venice Italy, we had a 8(?) hr lay over in France so we left the airport to run around Paris.

10:15 The Paris airport sucks. There was no jet bridge, everyone had to take a bus to get into the airport and the line to check passports wasn’t moving. Well I think its the line to check passports cuz there’s no one to ask or give directions.

14:00 The city of Paris was alright. It was like big city but with old feel to it. Had some good lunch. I picked some random French special which was like beef with twisted pasta. The cafe creme was good even without sugar. Creme br?l?e was great. Instead of using a blow torch, they flamb?ed it. Lunch cost us 60 euros, 15 a head which if it was dollars would be about right for sit down lunch, drink and dessert. But change that to dollars and its 96 dollars. Ouch.

My lunch.

Creme br?l?e properly done.

17:00 We saw the arch de triumph , Eiffel tower, Louvre, and other historic statues and architecture. 6 hours in France is good enough for me and will last me awhile.

Notre Dame

Louvre

Arc de Triomphe – This is about as close as we got to it. We were too tired to walk there.

We climbed up the first level. There aren’t any kosher pictures of me w/ the Eiffel tower to post so this is the best I’ve got.

20:45 Were at Venice now waiting for a water taxi. Since its all islands here u have to take a boat to your destination. Pretty cool. Except its pretty buggy here. Note to self: bring big repellent.

Today we walked 10.3 miles.

I really enjoy visiting different churches. It gives me a chance to see how other people worship. So Saturday night, it was like 11pm and I was like, oh yeah, I need to find a church to go to tomorrow. I fire up Google to find some churches in the area. The first hit was a gay community church. Yup, I’m in San Fran. So I peruse the results some more and find a church in my area. I find Mission Bay Community Church. It looks pretty good, of the Presbyterian Denomination (what our Pastors of CFC are). So I walked to the church this morning, about 2 miles away. I walk in and it looks like a Post Modern (PoMo) Church. It’s setup sorta like TCBC, like the seats in a semi circle with the “Pulpit” in the center. The first row consists of 3 sofas and 1 pew. Behind that are coffee tables with tea lights and TNIV/The Message Bible on them and a 2-4 chairs seated at each table. I guess PoMo churches don’t expect people to bring a Bible to church much like the other PoMo church I’ve been too. There weren’t that many people there, maybe 20. I knew the songs we sung. The one thing I was excited was how their website hyped up how they are “an unapologetically Christian Church centered on a belief in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.” The message wasn’t expository preaching and I could tell it was more post-modern on how he talked about the different ways people connect to God and their approach to evangelism. I still don’t know about the PoMo Church, the whole “What’s good for you is good for you, what’s good for me is good for me.” It reminded me of what Pastor Min said during Servants Retreat. “CFC will continue to change. We will change the way we relate to people but we will not compromise the Message.” If I come back for another weekend, I’d check out this church again. On a side note, why is it that PoMo churches have nice websites? I did a search on churches in Champaign Urbana Illinois, CFC is on page 9 for Google. Even Kenny Kim’s website is higher than ours. Gotta put that on our list of things to fix.

Now for pictures!

Day 4 – Downtown San Francisco
Golden Gate University, would you like to go here?

I walked about 15 miles on Saturday almost from Fisherman’s Wharf across the Golden Gate Bridge and back. Too bad it was cloudy that day.
