Thank you YA
I had a tremendous time in the Young Adult Small Group. Last summer I did SMA and it was good. I enjoyed having older people in small group who I can learn from. However, everyone was busy in other ministries (the point of SMA) whereas I didn’t have anything else going on. This summer I decided to switch to YA. It has awesome older people, guys who I really respect (and who have really cute kids) as well as just other people my age. I have never eaten so well in a small group either. Seriously, ever week was a potluck feast. I really enjoyed the people. I met a bunch of new people I’ve never knew in church before. They are down-to-earth people I could sit around and talk with and chill. I wish we got to hang out more outside of small group. But that’s the reality of life, people are just busy. There’s probably no way I could keep up w/ an undergrad small group this year; I just way too busy. Such is the life with work and school.
At our last Bible Study, a couple YA people were going around trying to convince us summer members to join YA for the school year. Honestly, if I weren’t dedicated to doing a discipleship group during the school year, I would definitely consider doing it. I’m still trying to stay involved in the undergrad ministry.
I think one of the biggest problems that face undergrad small group leaders is the lack of peer fellowship. My roommate in SMA small group and I were talking about this. We get so busy with our small groups and other church responsibilities that it’s hard to cultivate peer relationships. It was good to kick it with my peers and enjoy fellowship with some older guys. A good break from talking with undergrads about school, tests, majors, and finding a job.
Until next summer YA!
