Jesus Brings Hope to the Hopeless

April 16th, 2009

A person dies by suicide about every 16 minutes in the United States. An attempt is estimated to be made once every minute.

There are four male suicides for every female suicide, but twice as many females as males attempt suicide.

Every day, approximately 80 Americans take their own life, and 1,500 more attempt to do so.

Facts taken from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

Suicidal thoughts played a role in 5/12 (42%) of the testimonies this past Easter Baptism whether they were actual thoughts or attempts. 4/5 were females so 1/5 was male. This was where suicide was enough of a factor to warrant an entry into their testimony. Perhaps more had thoughts at one point in their life.

I heard this and my heart was breaking within me. Was there anyone there for these people in their darkest moments? If this many people have struggled with it and live to speak about it, how about all of those who are still struggling with it. Do they have anyone to talk to? Who will tell them about Jesus who brings light into darkness?

Romans 10:13-15
