The Fifth Heart Motive

March 11th, 2009

I would say I’m fairly competent with Heart Motives. I took Pastor Min’s counseling course two years ago and have been honing my detecting skills. Yesterday I attended the Love-Me seminar b/c I wanted to hear my friends speak. Little did I know, they were redoing the Love-Me presentation. They presented more information on the Love-Me Service. It was material with which I wasn’t familiar. I don’t remember PMin talking about it in class nor was it a part of last years seminar. I listened with intrigue.

The Love Me Service seemed incredibly different from Love Me Time. There were a number of key differences in the way the two played out. So much so that I began to wonder if the two should be separate Heart Motives. I won’t go too in depth but just highlight a few differences. Love Me Service don’t have chosen people, they have chosen services. They can achieve high emotions from anyone. Therefore, they don’t have a hierarchy of people but of services. They seek appreciation and it can come from anyone. A stranger can make them feel like a 10 whereas stranger would hardly affect a Love Me Time.

As they described it more, I felt like this should be a new heart motive, maybe the Appreciate Me. I began to wonder why are the two combined under Love Me. Other than the ‘Hybrid’, is it just b/c they don’t want to create a fifth heart motive? I was going to ask the presenters why the two weren’t split into Love Me and Appreciate Me.

The definition of Love Me is the desire for maximum genuine love from others. (I’ll leave off the rest of the definition b/c it could just be added to justify clumping the two together.) This is what defines a Love Me. Often times the presence of ‘Chosen Ones’ is what people use to indicate that they are a Love Me. However, the presence of Chosen Ones does not define a Love Me, it is the desire for maximum genuine love from others. Chosen Ones are merely a vehicle for that love. Maximum genuine love does not necessarily have to come from the Chosen Ones. Such is the case for Love Me Service. They appreciate the maximum love through the accumulation of appreciation from people. I asked Yoshi, the presenter, if it mattered who the appreciation came from and it doesn’t. It could come from close people or strangers. Genuine appreciation feeds his heart regardless of the source. In fact, he rates close people lower than strangers b/c close people can often not show appreciation for his services; he feels taken advantage of whereas strangers are generally more thankful for the help. Though the source of the love and the means of the love vary, Love Me Time and Love Me Service still desire the same thing – maximum genuine love.

It is also different from the other heart motives. Perfect Mes strive to meet their own standards. They are inward focused unlike Love Me Service. Love Me Service might look like Respect Me’s in that they want to show off how they can do things well. However, Respect Me’s do it for the Respect. Love Me Service might show off to show everyone how they can help people. They do it not for the Respect or admiration of people but for the appreciation they would receive by serving. They don’t want to feel higher than the person; they want to feel appreciated by the person. Love Me Service might also do ‘low’ tasks like taking out the trash or doing the dishes to get that appreciation while the Respect Me might generally avoid doing ‘servant tasks’. Love Me Service might also look like Like Me’s in that they like serving anyone and everyone and they want everyone people to know how good their service is. However, the Like Me wants to get their name out there and that is the goal. The Love Me Service does it so that they can serve more people and get more appreciation.

The Love Me Service is different from the Love Me Time but are similar at the core of what they desire and how they try to be God. The methods of receiving the love and the target audience differ but those are merely means to the same end.
