Let’s Be Rational Here
Writing of Phelps’ punishment for the Reason Foundation, Nick Gillespie opined: “The only regrettable behavior and bad judgment the incident highlights is the stupidity of the ongoing war on drugs, which criminalizes a plant that almost half of Americans 12 years and older have tried at one point or another in their lives.”
Some people believe Swimmer Phelps’ punishment was way out of proportion. The author goes on to point out how Phelps was punished more than other politicians for his ‘recreational activities’. He also compares his crime against felon’s with much more ‘grievous sins’ who weren’t punished as hard as Phelps. “Unjust! Unjust!”
Well there’s good news for you Mr. Joel Connelly. Justice will be served! White collar crimes, murders, and pot smokers all alike will face the same equal punishment. The problem is, you probably won’t like it. We’ll be answerable for everything we’ve done, regardless of who we are or what we’ve done. If we’ve broken any law at any time we’ll be punishable to eternal torment. You can take comfort in the knowledge that all will stand before a fair and just Judge who judges without partiality.
I guess that’s actually bad news since we’ve all messed up once or another. But there is Good News! Someone’s already taken our punishment; someone’s served our term for us; someone’s already suffered in our place. All we need to do is submit and follow him so that he could take our place. Let me introduce you to my good friend Jesus.
