Website overhaul?
I’m contemplating overhauling my website again. The biggest problem is that xanga is changing their site around with a new ‘fancier’ entry page which breaks my xanga-post-hack. The question remains, should I try to hack their new entry page; is it worth it? The biggest benefit for using xanga is their email subscriptions. However, I’m not sure if that’s now a primary means of disseminating information. I also use facebook and can use RSS. Please leave a comment or something if you would like to continue using xanga to read my posts instead of an RSS subscription or Facebook. One work around would be to implement my own emailer now that I know how w/ PHP. I’m also considering scrapping my own homebrew in favor of something else. Perhaps allow someone else to host my site such as wordpress.com or blogspot.com or any of the other gabillion blogging sites. I could also rebuild my site with Wordpress or Drupal (overkill?) to maintain ‘legacy support’ and keep all my old posts which are nicely stored in a database. However, there are lots of features I’d like which would be impractical for me to code such as tagging, tag clouds, archiving, twitter support, etc … Right now I’m leaning towards a Wordpress install. Any thoughts?
