Dearth of my Blogging

December 3rd, 2008

Over the past year or so (or maybe even more) my blogging rate has taken a hit. It’s not that I’ve stopped thinking or had anything to write. It’s I don’t have as much time and it’s not as high a priority. Work’s busy so I don’t really get a chance to blog there. I’ve got plenty to do after work so blogging usually takes a back seat. That plus I like to blog on “worthwhile” topics, subjects I’ve put thought into and have a ‘relatively’ unique perspective on. I use microblogging (aka Twitter/Facebook status) for all the ‘events’ going on in my life, which actually might have caused a decline in blogging since I now save it for all the ‘big ticket’ items and not things like how I rescued my roommate from a car accident in the snow and drove him to school on Monday, which can be found if you peruse my tweets/statuses.

There is great value to blogging which seems to be on the downward trend as Facebook has now firmly usurped Xanga. I wonder how many of these freshies know what Xanga even is. Maybe I treat blogging like publishing; I proofread what I write and make sure it’s accurate and properly reflects what I’m thinking. I think through my ideas and mull on them before I put them in public space. This leads to higher quality blog posts but also adds to the overhead of posting. Perhaps I need some private scratch space where I can just jot down ideas as they come to me. Hmm … perhaps a site overhaul is in order.
