Reference NYTimes: Parents Give Up Youths Under Law Meant for Babies
I’m at a loss of words regarding this article. Part of me wants to call out the irresponsibility of our nation. Not only can we not manage our money, now we’re abandoning our calling as parents and thus abandoning our children. Part of me wants to the note the importance of ‘toughness’ in a marriage partner as raising children is a difficult task. We lack the commitment to raise children and when things get tough, we run away from our problems. The intention of the law is good, to protect unwanted children. However, it’s become a way to push off difficult children whose parents don’t want to deal w/ anymore. Equally alarming is the solution to the problem – therapy and psychiatric care. Where is God? Where is the church? Is this not the time for the church to show the world biblical parenthood? It saddens my heart that this is the state of our nation. For all our cries of being a first-world nation and the last remaining super power, we are like a third-world nation in our ethics and morals. There’s a lot wrong with our country and no amount of legislation will fix it. Jesus is the only way.
