It’s That Time Again

February 5th, 2008

Lent starts tomorrow. As I was thinking of what to do for Lent I was reminded of all my past lent commitments. Some that I kept, others that I failed but through all of them I grew.

  • Freshmen year: Go to Thursday night prayer meeting. I fell asleep at every single one. My coservant said it was cute.
  • Sophomore year: Read through the New Testament. I think I got stuck somewhere in the Pauline Epistles. I know I didn’t finish it.
  • Junior Year: Attend 4/5 MP’s a week. 5/5 was just too much.
  • Senior Year: Progressive Daniel Fast. Each week I gave up a food group until I was left eating just fruits and vegetables. I think this was the start of my messed up stomach
  • 5th Year: My first extended fast. I remember talking to some friends about this. At first we decided not to but after a heart convicting Servants meeting about fasting, with steely resolve we decided to do it.
  • 6th Year: Memorize The Book of James and write a sentence summary for each chapter of the New Testament. I got stuck in James 3 and I only make it through 2 1/2 books of the NT. I think I did something else but I can’t remember what so I’m guess I didn’t keep it for all of Lent.

This year I’m disconnecting my desktop from the Internet. I’ll still have internet access at work and from my laptop, which I don’t use at home unless I’m working from home, or from my roommates computer. If you need to get a hold of me, call me before 11pm or txt me. I also want to finish memorizing James and I need to read through Acts, but I’ll try for the whole NT. I figure with no internet, it’ll free me up for plenty of other stuff.

Fast from the World to Feast on Jesus
