What would you do? Part II

December 10th, 2006

Next question. This is a theoretical question posed to me by one of my OIL small group members last year. The situation in the previous post reminded me of this question. You can still leave your response for my previous question if you’d like.

You’re (The Guy) a pastor or church counselor. It’s your anniversary (let’s say first or fifth or one really important milestone in your marriage) and you have a special dinner planned out for you and your wife. As you’re getting ready to leave, you receive a call from a church member who you know is going through a maritial problems. Say you take the call (you can disagree right here). She tells you her husband is about to walk out the door and wants you to come over and talk to them.

Do you cancel the dinner for another time and go over and help this couple or do you tell them you’re on the way to something extremely important (your anniversary dinner w/ your wife) and you’ll get back to them as soon as you’re done? Or if neither of the two, what would you do?
