Cute Kids Part 1

June 19th, 2006

I love how China potty-trains their kids. We were in LiJiang when we first saw this kid with a big slit down the middle of his pants. It’s called “kaidangku” and means “open-crotch pants”. (An article on it). My sister first saw it and told me some little kid was peeing into the street. Later on we saw more kids with it. In Shanghai, we saw a little kid squat over a sewer grate conviently relieving herself. I thought it was so cute to see these ~2 year old peeing in the streets. The best was when we were at Kunming lake. There were a few parents with their ~2 year olds playing in the grass together. One little boy had to go pee so his mom took him out by the water. I was sitting with my family at a park bench, eating snacks and people watching. We saw this little kid with his mom walk over to the waterside. It looked like she was coaching him on encouraging him to do his business. Well, when it finally came out, we saw a little stream of water proceed from his pants towards the lake and we cheered the little tike on. His mom turned to look at who was yelling “Yeah”. We all proceeded to look the other direction and shared a good laugh from this one. I think it’s hilarious to have little kids wear their kaidangku’s and pee in the streets. I think when I have kids, I’ll have them wear kaidangku’s so they’re not peeing in their pants or have to worry about diapers. Well, atleast when they’re playing outside. Wouldn’t want them squatting on my carpet peeing. That’d be gross.
