Lessons from Fasting
Somethings I learned from fasting this Passion Week:
The greater the fast, the greater the feast
– The hungrier you are, the better it tastes. I seriously felt I was in heaven while breaking fast. That food tasted amazing. I was so happy. Thinking broader, the harder the struggles we go through on this earth, the harder we fight, the more we try to love Jesus and suffer (whether from good motives or cuz we’re fighting our sinful ones) in expanding Christ’s kingdom against the darkness, the better our feasting will be in Heaven. Seeing this truth through food makes me want to fight all the more harder for kingdom expansion because when the kingdom comes, it will be all the more greater.
Don’t settle for cheap substitutes
As we were fasting, we saw food is such a sham. You eat a great meal but then you’re hugry again in a few hours. Things on this earth, no matter how good are always cheap. They don’t last. Seek what is eternal!
Anticipate the Coming
I disagree w/ P.Min, I think the last few hours of fasting are the hardest. Knowing that food will be coming soon makes my stomach churn and prepare for it, even when it’s still like 10 hrs away. All the other times except the first it’s like, why be hungry, you know you’re not gonna get fed. But those last few hours, oh man, my stomach was craving it. We need to live like that every day of our lives. If we knew Jesus were coming at the end of the week, we’d do as much as we could to tell everyone about Jesus. But we treat it as if we don’t think he’s coming so why be urgent. We need to live with that urgency cuz each moment could be our last. Ache for that second coming and let it move you.
I just think in general, when you fast, it really does purify your heart and mind. All I could think of was food and God while I was fasting. Someone threw in girls in there, but nope, highest desire – food and God not girls. And communion just tastes that much better. And I dunno if the sermons were just THAT good or if I was just that hungry but P.Min’s sermons were just THAT GOOD. This has been the best passion week thus far but may they be like it is written in Chronicles of Naria where “each one is better the one before.” Let me dwell in your presence Oh Lord. Hold onto dem blessings!
