Blood of the Martyrs is the Seed of the Gospel
Caroline Yoon, an alumn of U of I and CFC passed away Friday Night here on campus while visiting in a motorcycle accident. She was 22 years old and studying in graduate school at UPenn. I did not personally know her but a bunch of my friends knew her and the others involved in the accident. Her death is sad and unfortunate but I see hope and I see a bigger plan of God involved. She’s gone to be with our Lord and Savior, a far better place, and her death has rattled her parents and her many non-Christian friends. Her death is an opportunity for many more to come and know Christ, including her parents whom she was probably praying for. Larger than her friends and parents, her death rattled the University. It was headline news on our daily campus paper because she died on Unofficial St. Patrick’s Day, an excuse for students to indulge in drunkeness. Hopefully eyes are openned up to what has happened and the Holy Spirit is at work in people’s lives. I also don’t think it’s a coincidence that this week there is a 24/7 prayer chain on campus all week for all the Christian organization to unite and pray ending with our semesterly all-campus worship. The wickedness and drunkeness of our whole campus followed by Caroline’s death and the prayer and worship of all the Christians on campus all within a week shows me that God is at work. It’s sad that she passed away but God is being glorified in all of that is transpiring.
I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. John 12:24-25
