Normalcy

October 3rd, 2005

We all want to be normal. We want to live a normal life. When things don’t go how we expect or want, we can’t wait till things go “back to normal”. I found myself wishing for things to go back to normal, to when I could sleep and didn’t feel so incredibly stressed out. But what is normal?

Pastor Joe talked about normalcy this past weekend from 2 Corinthians 6. Paul commends himself as a servant of God to hardships, trials, sleepless nights, imprisonment, and beatings. This is the lifestyle of a servant of God. This is what should be normal. This weeks Bible Study on Anna shows a woman who lived in the temple for decades, fasting and praying everyday. This was her normal.

What is my normal? A comfy life w/ little stress, and adequate sleep? Or is this my normal, learning to fight and persevere for kingdom work? Will it just be this year, then when I leave, I’ll go back to what’s comfortable? Or will this become my lifestyle and I’ll build upon it, striving to be like Paul, like Christ? Count me in for the long haul. I want to be a marathon runner.
