Words.
This is in reference to P.Min’s sermon on The Importance of Words. It was a good sermon for me to hear, esp as I have the added responsibility of being a small group servant this year. I need to be careful with my words because they have the (great) power to affect people, whether I like that or not. What esp got me was when P.Min talking about Xanga’s. He said to be careful with what you post on your xanga because your words affect people. It’s good to be real. But we must also be wise. I’m totally post-modern. I’m about keepin’ it real. I hate phonies, people who put up fronts or follow trends. Be yourself. I use my blogging as an extention of myself. So one day, I made a post, not the wisest looking back and a friend said something to be about it. I thougth he was just being critical and judgemental of me. Now looking back, it’s probably one of the most stumbling things I’ve ever said. It’s mostly stumbling because of what I did goes against what most people think of me and I shared what I did. Since then I’ve learned to be more sensitive to what I post. It’s hard because there are so many different thoughts that I have and things that I want to share but it would not be beneficial to people to hear. One thing I learned, and this pertains to not only sharing in Bible study but life in general. We don’t need to sugar coat things and lie so as not to stumble people with our words, but show that we’re doing something about it. It’d be detrimental for me to say to my small group that I’m struggling w/ faith and doubt. That would discourage them. Instead if I said that, yeah, I’m going through a hard time, but through this hard time, I’m learning how to fight and keep on seeking God even though I may not feel like it or it’s enjoyable. This is being real but also shows I’m doing something about it. It’s one thing to be critical. It’s another to see a problem and do something about it. This sermon was a good reminder that we need to weigh our words carefully and be wise in the way we speak to others. For the maximum edifcation of others.
