For you all still looking for job
From the (near) totally worthless National Society of Collegiate Scholars (who suckered me into paying money to join only to give my money away to other people): The Top 10 Things to Consider When Selecting a Job
1) Health Benefits. Yeah I get, have to double check the dental. Some say I do, some say I don’t. I know I get something decent.
2) Retirement/Savings. Get that too. Right now, I can set aside 5% aside tax free and they match it all. I like free money.
3) Vacation/Sick time. Get that too. When I come on full time. I’ll be very close to, if not already getting 32.5 days of Vacation/Sick plus Federal Holidays per year.
4) Location. Eh. Maryland’s alright. The crappy thing is housing costs shooting through the roof. Of course it’s not much cheaper to live at home, NYC, or even Chicago for that matter.
5) Work environment. Yeah, I like the work environment here. Pretty lax, even if I do work in a black box. And throw in work hours here. I leave after 8 hours, thank you.
6) Salary. It’s pretty competitive (or so they say). Anyone want to pay an undergrad 60-70k fresh outta school?
7) Advancement opportunities. Hmm . . . there’s definate job mobility. If I don’t like my office, I can usually pack up and switch offices. Tricky part is promotions. Usually they want their GG14/15 to be management, but I dunno if I like management. Maybe by that time I’ll move on.
Personal Growth. I feel challenged at work (partly cuz I know nothing). There are crazy smart people all around and I think if you ever stop learning here, it’s your fault. 9) Education/Professional Developement. Yeah, I’m probably gonna get grad school paid for plus they always have internal courses on the latest and greatest stuff. All for free. If you ever stop learning here, it’s your fault.
10)Additional Benefits. Let’s see, I get a free gym, access to discounts via Civilian Welfare Fund, access to cheap military stuff on base. I hear I can even get a military account with Bank of America which are supposed to be pretty good.
Hmm . . . according to this list, this job isn’t all that bad. Heh. I don’t even know what I’d want to take another job. Well, I hope this helps all you still searching / settling.
