Know where you’re going.

March 29th, 2005

I’ve been reading the news at work lately. It helps pass the time since my team has switched projects and this one is SLOW. Alot of people are going on missions this summer and I’ve been seeing their countries pop up in the news. Take the time to read about the country you’re going to and understand the situation there. Pray for your country now! Here’s an article on Kyrgyzstan I grabbed of Google’s news. Lots of political unrest right there now. There’s the ongoing conflict between China and Taiwan that’s escalating. The North Korean’s nuclear arms talk creating pressure in the Asian Theater. Thought I don’t know people going to Indonesia, there was a huge earthquake that is expected to reach 2000+ dead. I also saw this story of Malawi that reminded me of a country I’ve been to on missions. Pray for these countries!

I’ve also been checking the UIUC schedule to see what to take next semester. The classes I want are being offered. Right now I have:
CS438 Communication Networks:3 Credits:Layered architectures and the OSI Reference Model; design issues and protocols in the transport, network, and data link layers; architectures and control algorithms of local-area, point-to- point, and satellite networks; standards in networks access protocols; models of network interconnection; overview of networking and communication software.
MW: 1400-1520
CS423 Operating Systems Design:4 Credit Grad: The organization and structure of modern operating systems and concurrent programming concepts. Deadlock, virtual memory, processor scheduling, and disk systems. Performance, security, and protection.
MWF: 1000-1050
CS498 Special Topics in Computer Science:4 Credit Grad: Information Assurance. Prereq for other CS Security Courses.
WF: 1230-1345

Which leaves me with 1 Credit left. I’m thinking Badmiton or Ice Skating. Bowling conflicts with my schedule. Maybe Outdoor sports. Military Science courses seem interesting. Horticulture? What do you think? And am I crazy for taking one really hard CS course (438) and the other two Grad? That’s gonna be mad MP time. I’d like the Grad Credit for Grad School (if I get in one cuz I’m too lazy to take the GRE’s). Plus, it only leaves me with 3 real courses. Oh, and I’d like to do some research my last year. I need to look into that. Don’t register till the 7th. So I’ve got time. Too bad I can’t take Chinese. Maybe they’ll let me sit in.
