What’s your cup of tea?
I was studying at the Union with Caroline and Steve when these three guys joined us. They spent the first 30 minutes talking about shoes (I later found out they were basketball shoes) Then the next 30 minutes about basketball. They had so much to say and kept talking tho they had an exam in 30 minutes that they were supposed to be studying for. One of the guys was getting really pumped up to play ball while they were talking. I was just listening and was amazed at how people can talk about shoes for 30 minutes and the intensity with which they talked.
All this talked reminded me of my conversation with Mike and Susan last night. We spent 40 minutes talking about the awesome work God is doing through CFC in producing kingdom workers. We were sharing testimonies from different people and the way God uses all these international students who come here for a short time to be missionaries pumped up to go back to their home country. I was so pumped up from last night conversation. Thinking about these two seemingly different conversations, something struck me. It’s so easy to talk about something that you love. You can go on and on about it and you’ll be excited the whole way through because it’s something you love. Often times you’ll get pumped up by it. What do you talk about that gets you riled up? What get’s your blood moving so you just want to get up and do whatever you’re talking about. Are these things empty promises that leave you hungering for me? Are the results meaningless, not leading to anything? Or do these things have eternal results and can change lives? What goes in, is what comes out and it often changes the heart in the mean time.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things. Phillippians 4:8
