Recap: Georgetown Graduation

May 22nd, 2004

So I went into G-town for their graduation this weekend. It was quite eventful, good and bad. It started out horrible and got worse. When I had driven to New Carrolton station, I found out I had forgotten my cell phone. I could have driven 20 minutes back to get it and then drive back to the station, or I could go with out it. I choose the latter since it was already getting late. Past 9 already. So I get out and see the train just leave. I’d have to weight another 20 mintues for the next one to get there. So I get on it and at Stadium-Armory, I hear an announcement about rails being fixed and that we had to get off the train. I didn’t get all the details since I wasn’t really paying attention b/c I was reading a book. I ask a guy and he says that the rail is closed there to Capitol South and we’d have to take a free shuttle, I get out and get the pass, and ask why we have to take the shuttle. The security people said b/c they were fixing the blue line from there to Addison Road. A path I was NOT planning to travel. Of course the Orange had left by then so I had to wait some more for the next train to come. So FINALLY I make it to Rosslyn @ 10:45. I get out of the station and it’s DOWNPOURING. It raining sheets. I don’t see the GUTS bus so I figure I’ll take the Metro Bus to M street and just walk to Jai’s house from there, a nice long walk in the rain in which I’ll get soaked. Second that, I’ll take a taxi there. So I pay $7 for a taxi to Jai’s house and when I get out, it stops raining … I guess I could have took the bus after all? Nope, cuz when I get there, maybe like 7 minutes afterwards, we leave. I probably would have missed them if I had taken the bus. Good thing I didn’t.

So we’re off and going karaoking. Last time I went, it was alright, but now I know how to have a better time. No shame. Really, no one’s that great of a vocalist (unless your Calvin or Angela, they just rocked that, anyways) We get there ~12, sing a nice 2 hrs. Great fun. The only problem about going karaoking, is that I don’t know the titles of any songs. I just sing along with songs other people. Anyways, I’m MAD beat. It’s like 3 hrs past my bed time. I was ready to pass out, but not like the girl who passed out THERE, where the music was blasting. So we get back to Jai’s house and I pass out. Props to Jai for housing me and a few other people.

Jai wakes me up at 8:30 I think, didn’t feel like I slept at all, was thinking about work all night. : ( So we go to the Georgetown College graduation, Get there late, have to stand. Then we get smart and stand in the shade. Supposedly it’s was like 95 in the sun. It felt a few degrees cooler in the shade. We hear Jen Lee’s name, Ifang screams. Then we all go up closer when they FINALLY get to Christine. We scream, then when she’s walking back to her seat, we scream again and she blows a kiss to us. What a playa. ; ). After that, they walk out we see Jen Lee and Christine. Couldn’t find Jen Lee after that so I didn’t get a chance to see her parents. After all the pictures, etc, I go to see Grace and congratulate her b/c I won’t be able to make it her graduation later at 1730. (5:30pm). Eventually we make it Levee (sp?) Center to grab some lunch, then Grace calls me and asks me if I want to go out to brunch with them at this place called 1786. Crazy nice restaurant, one of those fancy ones that guys have to wear a jacket. Fortunately, they have a house jacket for me to borrow, which will actually come in handy later. So Grace and I go sit down and wait for two of her friends. I got to go b/c one of her friends bailed on her, fortunately for me :D . Quite fancy (and pricey) place. Her friend Katie and some other girl who I never caught her name come and we talk, eat and stuff. I got this salad with the things that look like dandylions (which I actually do like) and Icelandic Salmon, quite good, and this incredibly rich Chocolate Expresso Trifle (think chocolate parfait). It was really good. So Katie’s friend was sitting right below the AC or something so she got real cold and so, like the gentleman I am, I offered her the coat I was wearing, which I really didn’t want to wear in the first place, but hey, points are points ; ). So mad props to Grace to not only inviting me out to a quality restaurant but also for paying for me.

Then I meet up with Ifang and listen to the graduation for School of Foreign Services. They had a much better speaker, Chief of International Correspondence at CNN. Then I try to find a ride home. GUTS bus wasn’t running, so eventually I crash at Jai’s place for a nap cuz Ohn wants to take a nap before he drove me to the Rosslyn station. All in all, it was a fun time. Frustrating travel but fun events. Really hot outside but I enjoyed the time with old friends. Good to see G-town people again who came back for graduations.
